THE RETURN OF THE ANARKALI......

And as always, it remains a tragedy....(Fashion sidelight from THE bash)

The Anarkali, presumably taking its queue from the doomed courtesan, is a tent-like garment that's cinched at the waist and flatters few shapes. Honourable exception being if you're tall and willowy like Deepika Padukone. But then Dippy can carry off a gunny sacks. Its all-enveloping folds are cruel to the short-statured (need we take names?), and unflattering for the generoushipped. The embellished ones especially leave the ladies looking like Christmas trees. As for that side-dupatta, that's as archaic as Ramu kaka and his gamcha.

While we welcome the covered up look-- always the more elegant option--can someone please send this fashion trend packing?
