Woody's marriage hits a rough patch?

Woody Allen's marriage to Soon-Yi Previn is on the rocks. Although Allen has vehemently denied charges that he had molested his adopted daughter Dylan Farrow when she was seven years old, her recent letter in The New York Times (dated February 1, 2014) has not gone down too well with his parents wife Soon-Yi.

Sources told the National Enquirer that the couple's 16-year union is rocked by ugly fights and may be on the brink of collapse.

"Soon-Yi is in a fury," revealed a source close to the director. "She's been at Woody's throat and he can't seem to do anything to calm her down. They have been arguing over Dylan's accusations, and it's turned them against each other."

Woody and Soon-Yi, 43, who wed in December 1997, have two adopted teen daughters - and they, too, have been rocked by the renewed bitterness, the insider told the Enquirer.

"Both have heard the rumours at school," said the source, "and now they're asking a million questions.
"Meanwhile, Soon-Yi is horrified that these allegations are back in the news again."

Emraan finds his nemesis

Arunoday Singh is gearing up for a villainous turn in Vikram Bhatt's upcoming supernatural thriller, Mr. X. Mirror has learnt that the actor will be seen as a sinister strategist, a sly villain, who is a cross between The Joker and Hannibal Lecter.

The story begins with Emraan and Arunoday working together on a high profile project but as the narrative progresses, the two go their separate ways and Arunoday's character starts acquiring shades of grey. Eventually, he turns into a full-blown antagonist. Said a source,"Arunoday's character is a sociopath who can seduce as easily as he can kill. He has worked really hard on his physique, but don't expect a dramatic look. He will, at best, look like an aged version of himself."

When contacted, Arunoday confirmed the news saying, "Yes, I play the villain in Mr.X. I'm an alpha-predator of sorts, who's charming and sexy, but has a twisted brain. For him, good or bad isn't an issue, it is all about plotting an intelligent killing."

Quiz him if the character has supernatural powers like Emraan's invisible man and he says, "He could, but I cannot reveal anything yet!"

Bipasha in Siddharth Malhotra’s next

The We Are Family director will helm a film with the actress in the lead.

Four year after directing the Kareena Kapoor-Arjun Rampal starrer We Are Family for Karan Johar, Siddharth Malhotra is set to return as an independent producer and has commissioned debutant Partho Mitra to direct a film, which will have Bipasha Basu in the lead.

Partho has previously directed popular TV shows like Ghar Ek Mandir and Sansaar.

When contacted Malhotra said, "Bipasha has expressed interest in the project. A final narration is still due but within the next few days, we will have a clearer picture."

Does this indicate that direction has taken a backseat for him?

Although Siddharth refused to comment, according to a source, "His next directorial venture will be produced by Eros. Currently, he is working on a script which should be locked in a week's time. By the end of March, the casting of his film will also be finalised."

Rs 30 crore no big deal!

After two back-to-back hits, Ranveer Singh has become one of Bollywood's most wanted actors. But surprisingly he hasn't signed a film after Zoya Akhtar's Dil Dhadakne Do which rolls in May. This film too was accepted by him much before the release of Goliyon Ka Raasleela Ram Leela.

After his recovery from a bad attack of dengue, Ranveer has kept busy with shoots and promotions. He is currently racing through a pile of scripts in the hope of finding something interesting, before he leaves for Delhi on March 7 for a month-long second schedule of an upcoming film.

Meanwhile, buzz is that a really tempting offer came his way recently when Eros International approached him with a two-film, Rs 30-crore deal. Ranveer was reportedly told that he could pick a set-up of his choice including the script, cast, director and even a calendar of dates. But, seems the actor turned down the offer because he did not want to take up a project blindly.

When contacted, the Eros spokesperson said, "This is absolutely untrue. Eros has made no such offer to Ranveer."

Only sympathy, no work!

A few days ago, Shiney Ahuja landed up at Mahesh Bhatt's Khar office looking for work. The visit came as a surprise to the team at Vishesh Films, especially as the actor was accompanied by his wife Anupam.

Even though Shiney has acted in two productions under the banner, Gangster and Woh Lamhe, Mahesh Bhatt's frankspeak after he was accused of raping his maid in 2009, did not go down well with Shiney.

But the visit did not bear fruit as Bhatt's associates ruled against casting him in any future projects.

"Shiney knew that I would meet him warmly, and I did," says Bhatt, adding that he called his three directors, Vikram Bhatt, Mohit Suri and Karan Dara, who were in the adjacent room, and informed them that Shiney wanted to get his career back on track. "I told them to consider Shiney as a potential candidate for key roles in their new ventures."

A few minutes later, Shiney trudged back home and Bhatt recalls that he looked "nervous, meek and low on self-esteem". "Today, he is not the Shiney I knew," admits Bhatt. A long discussion followed after Shiney's exit and most members of the team expressed serious reservations about casting Shiney.

They pointed out that a guilty verdict mid-shoot will hamper the project in which he is cast. Besides, casting someone accused of rape, before he is declared innocent, could raise questions against their banner.

Says Bhatt, "I have understood their concerns. And I reiterate what I said earlier that if proven guilty by the highest court, then he deserves to be punished according to the law."

Salman miffs Rahman with ‘Average’ jibe

The tension between the star and the composer was the talking point of an event.

Once again, Salman Khan has put his foot in his mouth. The launch of Raunaq, a musical collaboration between A R Rahman and Union Minister (Telecom & IT) Kapil Sibal, yesterday, set the stage for a somewhat hostile interaction between the star and the Oscar-winning composer.

Salman made a fashionably late entrance mid-way through the event. When he was invited to the podium, the 48-year-old actor started off by praising Sibal and said, "Kapil sir is a great lyricist."

What followed made jaws drop. "You all know what an average artist Rahman is. Right?" Salman quipped and immediately the alwayspresent smile on Rahman's face vanished.

Thanks to Rahman's evident displeasure, Salman quickly realised his faux pas and tried to salvage the situation saying, "There are only two things in common between him and me, which is Jai Ho." Rahman did not look impressed by Salman's feeble attempt at humour.

Salman then proceeded to request Rahman to work with him. "Hamaare saath kab kaam karoge yaar?" he asked. Rahman maintained a poker face.

A few minutes later, Salman stretched out his hand to the much-respected music director, but not before bragging that he (Salman) is the best person to inaugurate the music album.

Rahman did not reciprocate the gesture and kept his hand glued to his side.

Moments later, the two posed for pictures with Sibal where Rahman tried to present a cheerful face for the media.

According to an eyewitness present at the event, too much should not be read into Salman's statements. "That's his sense of humour. As for Rahman not stretching out his hand, Salman was standing adjacent to him so it is possible that he didn't see the gesture," he reasoned.

However, another source agreed, "what happened was definitely not in good taste".

Rahman had earlier shot off a legal notice to Salman for using the title Jai Ho, claiming that he had exclusive copyright over the term (Mirror, December 13, 2013). Rahman however later gave his NOC, which facilitated the release of the film.

To bond or not to bond

With his ambitious Milan Talkies undergoing numerous cast changes and eventually put on the backburner, Tigmanshu Dhulia has moved on to another project.

Buzz is, his next film,Yaara revolves around the theme of friendship, betrayal and separation. Mirror has learnt that the film will be set in two timelines, one in the 80s and the other in the present day.

A source close to the director said, "Vidyut Jamwal and Amit Sadh will be playing younger versions of Irrfan Khan and Manoj Bajpai. Shooting will start in the next two months."

Shruti Haasan has reportedly been locked to play the female lead of this Azure Entertainment production.

However, when contacted, Tigmanshu denied the news saying, "We are trying to put together a project, but not this."

‘Alia is the Meryl Streep of India’

Rahul Bhatt on his stepsister, his love-hate relationship with dad Mahesh, his Bad Bollywood debut and all the controversies of the past.

Not so long ago, Rahul Bhatt had gone on record to say: "Mahesh Bhatt never treated me like his own child. It's the raw uncut truth about my relationship with my father. I was vulnerable. I had no father to guide me in my growing years."

But the two seem to have put the frayed relationship behind and made a new beginning as Mahesh Bhatt is ready to launch his son in a co-production with daughter Pooja. The director has not yet been finalised but sources close to Rahul reveal that Pooja herself might wield the megaphone.

The film, titled Bad, will go on floors next year and Mahesh Bhatt says, "I am not in the business of launching my kith and kin in movies. But suddenly, everything fell into place and I found a script which fits Rahul like a glove."

Insisting that "everything is fine between me and dad now", Rahul says, "The past is history and the future is a mystery, the present is all that matters. Whatever I had to say, I wrote rather articulately in my book Headley & I. Now let's let bygones be bygones."

Mirror has it that Rahul's character will have grey shades. The 32-year-old actor is unperturbed about debuting with a dark role and says, "I play a rather twisted character, those traits are in me too and hence I guess I won't have to try too hard."

Other than being bad, how is Rahul preparing for the debut? The fitness trainer already has a buff body and says that he has no plans to lose the muscle. "I have a big built, that's how real men are. I plan to continue being a gym instructor as that is my passion and I do it for a price," he asserts.

Rahul earlier made headlines for his alleged association with 26/11 Attacks accused David Headley and in 2002 he was arrested for allegedly assaulting Pooja's then partner Ranveer Shorey. Then, came the tellall book. A Bollywood career would require him to remain controversy free. How does he plan to do that?

"Was it wrong to stand up for my sister when someone beat her up? Have I got drunk and banged my car into a bakery? Have I gone hunting? Look, I am not insinuating anything. I just air my opinions and I shall never lead my life to please other people," he rages.

Parting shot. What does he think of stepsister Alia Bhatt's acting career? Pat comes the reply, "Exceptional! She has come up with an awesome performance in Highway. She is the Meryl Streep of India."

‘We will fight it out’

The war between the producers of Youngistaan and a soft drink company hots up following a legal battle over the title.

On February 13, Mirror reported that the producers of Youngistaan, MSM Motion Pictures and Vashu Bhagnani's Puja Films, was involved in legal battle with PepsiCo Inc over the title. The soft drink company sent the filmmakers a legal notice pointing out that they had copyright over the term 'youngistaan', which had been coined by them several years ago.

The producers of the film were told to change the title with immediate effect. The notice further reiterated that they should withdraw all promotional material that mentioned the title.

While hearing a petition filed by the soft drink brand, the judge at the Bombay High Court had earlier advised the two parties to sit down together and amicably sort out the issue. In the last hearing both parties presented their proposals to the court. However, neither was prepared to reveal the content of the proposals made in court.

Confirming this, Pranjal Khandhdiya, Executive Producer, MSM Motion Pictures, admits that there were talks and options were discussed.

According to a source, one of this was going with the sms spelling of Youngistaan.

The source further adds that the producers were even toying with the idea of calling the film Faltu 2.

Khandhdiya dismisses this report saying, "Faltu is another brand and our film is not an extension of it but a new film. So why would we want to call it Faltu 2," he argues.

Yesterday, a verdict was expected by evening. But the High Court postponed the final order to a later date which has not yet been intimated.

With the film's release date-March 28-looming, MSM Motion Pictures has now decided to stay with their original title. "We will fight it out because the title was granted to us by the film associations. Once they clear it, no one should raise objections to it. If we give in now, the system collapses. Tomorrow, even a smaller brand can claim copyright and create hindrance for another producer. So we have now decided to fight it out,"Khandhdiya reiterates.

PepsiCo India's spokesperson reverted to our mail saying, "Youngistaan is a registered trademark of PepsiCo. Inc and has been extensively used in its campaign. As the matter is pending in court, we will not be able to further comment on the matter."

Margot Robbie dating Kiwi farmer's son

Margot Robbie is rumoured to be dating a man named Henry Aitken, who is the son of a New Zealand farmer.

A close friend of Aitken said that The Wolf of Wall Street actress met and came close to her beau on the sets of Z for Zachariah, where he worked in the film's art department.

The unidentified pal claimed that the pair had been seeing each other for about a month, adding that Robbie seemed like the sort of person who was not interested in dating 'celebrity types'.

The actress is currently on location in Port Levy, near Christchurch, filming the movie and a picture on Aitken's Facebook page shows him cosying up to the actress.

Still friends with Liz, says Shane

Aussie cricketer Shane Warne says he's "still friends" with his ex-fiance Elizabeth Hurley and his dismissed rumours of a fling with lingerie label boss Michelle Mone.

The retired cricketer called off his engagement to the British actress last winter, two years after he popped the question.

He confirmed their split had been amicable on Australian breakfast show Sunrise on Tuesday, saying: "Elizabeth and I are still friends and we catch up when we can. It's a shame it's all over and done, but that's the way it goes unfortunately."

Hit- and- run case against LiLo dropped

She's battled a long list of legal troubles in recent years, but Lindsay Lohan won one battle without even having to attend court, after Nubia Del Carmen Preza dropped a lawsuit against her.

Nubia brought a case against the actress in 2012, claiming that she had hit her with her car, while she was pushing a baby stroller across a road in West Hollywood in September 2010.

While the stroller was not hit, the lawsuit stated the accuser suffered 'disabling and serious personal injuries, pain, suffering, and anguish' following the incident, leading her to seek damages for medical expenses and time she was forced to take off work. However, Nubia has now dropped the lawsuit completely, after the case failed to ever come to court.

Katy accused of blasphemy

Singer Katy Perry has reportedly upset members of the Muslim community with the video of her latest hit Dark Horse.

In the promo, the Roar hitmaker plays an Egyptian queen, who has the power to hit her subjects with lightning and turn them into sand.

In one of the scenes from the video she turns a man into sand who is seen wearing a pendant reading Allah in Arabic. The jewellery item is also zapped.

Some of the members of the community have criticised the video and have launched a campaign requesting YouTube to remove the video.

"This petition is lodged In (sic) regards to Katy Perry's music video Dark Horse... The video is considered as highly controversial to its viewers as a result of its portrayal of blasphemy.

"At 01:15 (minutes) into the video Dark Horse; a man is shown being burned, whilst wearing a pendant (also burned) forming the word Allah, which is the Arabic (sic) word for God. Such goes to show, that blasphemy is clearly conveyed in the video, since Perry (who appears to be representing an opposition of God) engulfs the believer and the word God in flames.

"This is the reason for lodging the petition so that people from different walks of life, different religions and from different parts of the world, agree that the video promotes blasphemy (sic). Using the name of God in an irrelevant and distasteful manner would be considered inappropriate by any religion," wrote one of the members in a petition on Change.org.

Why would I wish ill for Aditya's son?

As their 19-year old daughter Athiya kickstarts her Bollywood career with a remake of the 1983 blockbuster Hero, Mana and Suniel Shetty talk about her controversial co-star Sooraj Panscholi, mentor Salman Khan and the inevitable romance rumours.

How involved are you both in Athiya's maiden film, the Hero remake?

Suniel: No interference, not even inputs.

Mana: We have left the decision making to Salman Khan (producer) and Nikhil Advani (director).

When did Athiya decide that she wants to pursue acting?

Suniel: It happened about a year-andhalf back.

Mana: Suddenly one night, she came into our room and said, "I want to do something creative. I want to be an actress."

Did you try to hold her back?

Suniel: Why would we do that? Bollywood is a beautiful, exciting place to be. Every day you meet new people. Yes, many told me that the industry is not a easy place for girls and daughters in particular. And I would tell them the industry is just a small part of this world. I don't think it would be a difficult place for someone coming from a secure background.

Mana: My daughter is an extremely confident girl who knows what is right and what is wrong. Importantly, she is not out to emulate anybody.

But surely, you must have briefed her before she signed the film?

Suniel: I just told her, "See that you conduct yourself well, let no Friday scare you and work hard."

Mana: She is a mature person.

Reportedly, you had reservations about Athiya's co-star Sooraj Panscholi after he got embroiled in the Jiah Khan controversy...

Suniel: Aditya and Zarina have gone through a lot. If my son was in jail, I wouldn't have been able to take it. I sympathise with him. Why would I wish ill for my contemporary's (Aditya Panscholi) son? Moreover, Salman believes in Sooraj and he and I share a great rapport.

Mana: Jiah was a sweet girl. Athiya knew her too and was very upset after she passed away. But we had no objections to her working with Sooraj.

Athiya will have to face her share of rumours and link ups now...

Suniel: Nothing is bigger than the social media today, they are worse than the papparazi.

Mana: Random people taking pictures and uploading them on the Internet is a nuisance. At least, the print and TV media call us to verify.

Is Athiya a part of your charity?

Suniel: It's a life-changing experience.

Mana: My mom Vipula Kadri's NGO Save The Children of India, has now passed on to my brother, sister and me. We host, Araish, a fundraising exhibition for talented designers.

You were at Athiya's first day shoot, will you always be so protective?

Suniel: We were on the sets for just five minutes.

Mana: The days of "Mummy, listen to me" are gone. I don't need to be around.

How driven is she?

Suniel: She loves Hindi films and likes most of them. She is extremely motivated and knows she is in the right place.

Mana: Even as a student, she got 90 per cent and above. When she played football, she always played to win. Also, she is a superb swimmer.

Is she fashion and weight conscious?

Suniel: I don't think so.

Mana: Her attitude is, "Let the world say anything, I don't care!" That says it all.

Sallu finds his chhote bhaiya

Neil Nitin Mukesh will play Khan's brother in Sooraj Barjatya's family drama.

Several months and multiple auditions later, it seems Sooraj Barjatya has finally found the perfect guy to play Salman Khan's younger brother in his upcoming film, tentatively titled Bade Bhaiyya.

Mirror has learnt that Neil Nitin Mukesh has been locked to play the role, for which Vidyut Jamwal was earlier approached.

Added a source close to the film's production, "The makers have had lengthy discussions with Neil, who has consented to Sooraj in principle. But, he is yet to sign on the dotted line. That should happen in the next few weeks as Neil is really kicked about the film. Bagging a Sooraj Barjatya film could revive his career which hasn't been in great shape lately following a series of duds."

In case you are wondering how was Neil cast as Salman's brother, since the two don't look even remotely similar, well here's the twist in the tale: Neil will be seen playing Sallu's stepbrother in the film.

Added another source, "Neil is not the archetypal younger brother. His character is not negative but has shades of grey." Apparently, that was the reason Vidyut turned down the role.

The film will reunite Salman Khan with the Barjatyas after 15 years. They last worked together in the 1999 blockbuster Hum Saath Saath Hain. The superstar is looking forward to playing Prem again.

First national museum for Indian cinema yet to open

Mirror had reported that the country's first National Museum for Indian Cinema would open on February 22. But it could not keep its date with history.

According to a source, on the day the article appeared, February 18, a call from Centre informed the museum officials that they'd have to postpone the inauguration.

The Information & Broadcasting Minister, Manish Tewari, was to do the honours. The source says that the last-minute change in plans could have been prompted by political upheavals in Delhi with the Telegana Bill getting passed in Parliament on February 18.

Project coordinator Anil Kumar confirmed that the museum is yet to open. "We are ready and waiting for a fresh date to be set," he said.

The museum is housed inside the heritage bungalow, Gulshan Mahal, at Mumbai's Peddar Road. In one of the nine halls, there is a 3-D replica of a set from India's first full-length feature, Raja Harishchandra, first screened for the public on May 3, 1913, at Girgaon's Coronation Cinema. The museum was initially slated to open on May 3, 2013, but wasn't ready then.

Three times Kooler

The third instalment of the sex comedy franchise Kyaa Kool Hain Hum is set to roll.

Milap Zaveri, who scripted last year's blockbuster Grand Masti, is keen to recreate the winning combo of sex and comedy. Though he is yet to lock the script for Masti 3, he is busy with another sex comedy, the third instalment of the Kyaa Kool Hain Hum franchise.

"After Grand Masti, Mushtaq (cowriter Mushtaq Sheikh) and I approached Ekta (Kapoor) for whom I've written Shootout At Wadala, The Villian and Main Tera Hero, with an idea for Kyaa Kool Hain Hum 3. Even though Induji's (producer-director Indra Kumar) film was panned by the critics, the audience enjoyed all the jokes including the risque ones and Grand Masti went on to gross over Rs 100 crore worldwide. This proves that 90 per cent of India wants to watch such films. So Mushtaq and I urged Ekta to carry forward her Kool franchise. She liked the idea, and gave us the go-ahead," says Milap.

He's pretty sure that Tusshar Kapoor will be a part of the film. But unsure about Riteish Deshmukh who has been saying that he doesn't want to do any more sex comedies and three-hero films.

"Both Masti and Kyaa Kool Hain Hum have established themselves as saleable brands. And since we don't take forward the story with the earlier characters, actors can easily be replaced. But I hope that Riteish, who's a dear friend, stays with both franchises given how popular they have become," says Milap.

Meanwhile, he hopes to roll with his second film as a director, Ooh La La, by September. It revolves around three boys and two girls and will be shot in either Mauritius or Fiji.

"It's one of my funniest scripts. Mushtaq has written the screenplay and I've penned the dialogue. I narrated it to Gups (Sanjay Gupta) with whom I've done around nine movies, knowing comedy wasn't his genre. He laughed a lot and after thinking about it for a night and wondering if I wouldn't rather direct an ensemble cast action movie, agreed to produce it for me. It will be Whitefeather Films' first comedy. Gups revived my writing career twice before, with Kaante and Shootout... Let's hope it's third time lucky," says Milap.

However, he's very categorical that Ooh La La is not a sex comedy.

Says Milap, "It's a mad, mad caper but not a desi American Pie. It's more in the Golmaal, Housefull, Chashme Baddoor zone given that Rohit Shetty, Sajid Khan and David Dhawan have been my film gurus. The idea is to spin off another successful series with this one, the location changing with every new film."

Also, Escape From Taliban 2

Late on the night of September 4, 2013, some men forced their way into Sushmita Banerjee's home in Afghanistan, tied up her husband, Janbaz Khan and abducted her. Her body was found the next day with 20 bullet marks.

Almost two decades earlier, Sushmita or Sayeda Kamala had been sentenced to death by the Taliban regime after two abortive attempts to flee the country. She was to die on July 22, 1995, but with the help of the village headman, and after killing three Taliban men, she finally fled to Kolkata. Her memoir, Kabuliwalar Bangali Bou (Kabuliwala's Bengali Wife) was adapted on screen by Ujjwal Chatterjee as Escape From Taliban (2003) with Manisha Koirala reliving Sushmita's ordeal.

Post the release, both Ujjwal and Manisha got death threats from the Taliban. "They stopped in 2005," he says.

Ujjwal was in Kolkata, gearing up for the release of his Bengali movie, Swabhoomi, when he learnt about Sushmita's death. He recalled the bold lady who'd made several enemies across the border for her refusal to wear a burqa, her book, social work and just for being an Indian. A renegade Taliban militia, The Suicide Group of the Islamic Movement of Afghanistan, who claimed responsibility for her murder, believed her to be an "Indian spy".

After her return to Kolkata Sushmita kept a diary between 2001 and 2013, which was released as a book, Escape Forever, this year. Ujjwal is planning a sequel based on this book and is going to Kolkata to take permission from the publishers and her family.

"Her love for her adopted daughter, Tinni, kept taking her back Afghanistan despite all the warnings she got," Ujjwal sighs, saying he'd like to release the film next September on Sushmita's second death anniversary.

Will Manisha reprise her role in the sequel? "I'd love to work with Manisha if she says yes," he says.

Waiting for a sandstorm!

Sunita Radia, the associate cinematographer of Munnabhai M.B.B.S. (2003) and Rang De Basanti (2006), already has the international press raving about her work in the upcoming film, Jal which had its world premiere at the Busan International Film Festival.

"I had just finished my first film as a cinematographer, Aalaap, when I got a call from writer-director Girish Malik, just 15 days before Jal was to roll," recalls Sunita whose reccee took her to tribal villages where she attended weddings, listened to folk music, and met real water diviners and conservationists.

Set in the Rann of Kutch, Jal focuses on the water scarcity in the region. It's protagonist, Bakka (Purab Kohli) is a water diviner. The brief was clear; Girish wanted a surreal feel and so they chose to shoot in peak summer to capture the mirages and heat waves.

Surviving in the desert when the temperature was up to 50 degree celsius was an ordeal. "Sandstorms would garnish our meals daily but eventually, we got accustomed to them," Sunita smiles.

All they had was the sky and a vast expanse of harsh, barren land. Creating a space which looks surreal, waiting for twisters, sandstorms and mirages was daunting. "But a few days into the shoot, we had a fair idea of how the weather would behave. The locals who know the topography and the climate well, were a big help," she says.

When a sandstorm was in the horizon, the team would prep to roll. Kesar (Kirti Kulhari), the female lead, is introduced during one of these sandstorms.

Malik was open to experimentations and there was no compulsion to make the frames look sanitised. "Girish was okay with me using extreme burnouts and shadows. I've drastically played with brightness and contrast to give the film a dreamlike feel," says Sunita.

The film has a vivid molestation scene but according to Sunita, being a woman only helped. Not only she could handle the scene more sensitively, the actress felt more at ease.

"I wanted to shoot it in a way that it will give you goose bumps but the serenity and dignity of the character would be maintained. I wanted the audience to feel her agony and pain, and also create a sense of intrigue," she says, adding that there is also an aesthetically shot lovemaking scene in the film.

"However, the colourist found the scene too hot!" she quips.

Ghostbusters star Harold Ramis dead

Actor-director Harold Ramis, best known for starring in cult comedies like Ghostbusters and Groundhog Day with Bill Murray, has died at the age of 69. Ramis died of autoimmune inflammatory vasculitis, a rare disease that involves swelling of the blood vessels, his agent said.

The star found fame as bespectacled ghost-hunter Egon Spengler in the Ghostbusters franchise in 1984. But he was also a talented writer and director, who co-wrote and directed Caddyshack, Animal House and Analyze This.

"His creativity, compassion, intelligence, humour and spirit will be missed by all who knew and loved him," said his family in a statement. Ramis is survived by his wife Erica, sons Julian and Daniel, daughter Violet and two grandchildren.

The actor had reportedly been quiet about his illness, which dated back to 2010. Born in Chicago to shop owner parents Ruth and Nathan, Ramis studied at Washington University in St Louis.

He started his carrer as a writer by penning arts stories for his local newspaper and editing Playboy magaazine's "party jokes" section.

After leaving the magazine, he joined Chicago's renowned Second City improvised comedy troupe but said he realised his limitations as a performer after encountering John Belushi.

Its spiltville for Robin Thicke and Paula Patton

Robin Thicke and his wife Paula Patton have separated after nearly nine-year-long marriage.

In a joint statement to People Magazine, the couple said they'd always be best friends."We will always love each other and be best friends, however, we have mutually decided to separate at this time," they said.

There have been rumours that the Hollywood couple's relationship has been on the rocks ever since Robin released his controversial Blurred Lines video last year, and then sang it live on TV while Miley Cyrus twerked on him. Robin and Paula met when they were teenagers, married in 2005 and had a son, Julian in 2010.

LUPITA NYONG'O LAUGHS OFF DATING RUMOUR

She had joked that she broke up with Jared Leto because of Miley Cyrus

Actress Lupita Nyong'o has denied dating rumours with fellow Oscar nominee Jared Leto. The 12 years a Slave star, who is garnering much praise for her work in film, jokingly said in The Ellen DeGeneres show that Miley Cyrus was the reason behind their break-up, reported an online gossip magazine.

"You're actually in tabloids as well, which means you've really made it cause there's rumours that you and Jared Leto are together," DeGeneres joked.

"Ah, but I thought Miley Cyrus broke us up," Nyong'o responded, laughing. "That was the last thing I heard," she added.

‘Rahat Saab wants to fly down to India in november’

Says Salman Ahmed who is leading a team that is here to sort out the Pakistani singer's issues with the Enforcement Directorate.

A few days ago, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan read that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) would be questioning him during his next visit to India. The 37-year-old Pakistani singer was detained on February 14, 2011, at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International airport after $1.24 lakh was allegedly recovered from their possession. News from Lahore is that he is willing to meet the ED officials, but before that he has hired a law firm and despatched a team to India to try and resolve the matter.

Confirming this, Salman Ahmed who is leading the team which landed in India yesterday, told Mirror, "When Rahat read the news, the first thing that came to his mind was that why this move after three years and why he hasn't received any official intimation from ED on the subject. But without wasting time, he decided to quickly clear the decks because he wants to fly down to India in November."

Ahmed asserted that they are ready to meet every official, from every department that matters, to clear the issue. "We have a UK- based law firm who will look into every detail. If ED is not satisfied with just us, Rahat saab will come and discuss the matter personally and provide them with whatever is required. This whole thing has been going on for too long," he maintained.

In an interview to this newspaper (February 23, 2013), Rahat had said, "I wasn't aware of the upper limit for the foreign currency one is supposed to carry. Mind you, we were 14 people, which is why we had such a big amount with us. We were penalised, but that's over now. Yes, I haven't come to India after that, but I will do so in 2014."

Post the 2011 incident, Rahat has lost out on several assignments in India. Endorsing this, Ahmed said, "Rahat saab has sung over 80 songs in Hindi films. And songs do make a difference. He sang for blockbusters like Dabangg, Dabangg 2 and Bodyguard and you cannot discount the fact that his songs contributed to the success of these films."

Adding to Rahat's woes, he lost his manager in India, Chitresh who was Aadesh Shrivastava's elder brother, in a car crash when they were travelling together from Detroit to Chicago during a concert tour. "Chitresh handled his work in India. His death was a huge setback," Ahmed pointed out.

Rahat meanwhile has been busy with international shows. Yesterday, he returned from a concert tour in Nairobi, Kenya, Durban, Johanessburg and Capetown which was completely sold out.

All efforts to get him to speak on the issue were futile as he was sleeping off a jet lag.

Spat plays villain for Sallu's team

Skipper Suniel Shetty refused to lead Mumbai Heroes after a showdown with Aftab Shivdasani.

Mumbai Heroes, the CCL (Celebrity Cricket League) team owned by Sohail Khan, was enjoying a good run in the fourth edition of the tournament after three years of lost matches. But the spell came to an abrupt end when they lost the semi-final to Karnataka Bulldozers in Bangalore, yesterday. Mirror has the real story on what went wrong.

A source from the team has revealed to this newspaper that there was dissention in the ranks, courtesy a rift between Aftab Shivdasani and the team's captain Suniel Shetty. After a long-drawn rift, things recently came to a head following which Suniel walked out and returned to Mumbai mid-tournament.

Salman Khan, the team's brand ambassador was not amused by the spat as the two actors allegedly came to blows during a meeting in Bhubaneshwar, just before the match against Bengal Tigers in Cuttack.

An eyewitness told Mirror, "Aftab and Suniel had to be separated. The spat was full of expletives. Aftab felt that Suniel has been a biased captain while Suniel felt that Aftab is too slow a player."

Suniel then decided not to be a part of the playing eleven in the Cuttack match and was also missing when the Mumbai team played against Veer Marathi in Hyderabad. Worse still, Suniel didn't even come to the grounds in the semis. Buzz is, Aftab and Suniel have not been on the same page for four years.

A source close to Suniel, told Mirror, "Aftab who is Suniel's deputy, tends to take decisions and when Suniel tries to explian his decisions to Aftab, he throws a fit."

Added the source, "Suniel's exit affected the team adversely. Though they won the next two matches after Suniel's walkout, they lost the all-important semi final. Suniel is a good batsman and his presence may have made the difference. Moreover, his exit played on the minds of his teammates."

While Aftab chose not comment on his ' daggers drawn' equation with his team's captain, Suniel simply said, "My father has been unwell. Hence, I did not play the three matches in question."

In search of an author

Akhilesh Jaiswal's directorial debut traces the journey of porn writer 'Mastram'.

After scripting a drama around the Gangs of Wasseypur, Akhilesh Jaiswal will make his directorial debut with Mastram, a fictional biography of a real life pulp writer whose erotica has been bestsellers on railway stations and roadside stalls for decades.

The author, whose identity is still a mystery, sold many risque titles under his pseudonym. His books are available on stands even today so Akhilesh didn't have to go looking for props. "I've read a few too and would wonder about Mastram's identity and how he explained his vocation to his family," says Akhilesh , who after GOW tried tracking him without success.

"I didn't find him and discovered even his publishers didn't use their real names because while these books made money, they weren't the kind you'd want to be associated with," says the director, who then set about giving Mastram a credible back story—a bank clerk with dreams of becoming a litterateur, who in an attempt to 'spice up' his story ends up authoring the first pornographic series in Hindi.

The film's first trailer is out online with a 'strictly for adults' disclaimer. Akhilesh is prepared for an 'A' certificate and doesn't expect the censors to ask for too many cuts because the bold scenes have been aesthetically shot. "I wasn't making a B or C-grade film, and neither a Grand Masti which I hated for its double innuendo laden dialogue. I loved Dedh Ishqiya," he says, happy that a Honey Singh track, Achko Machko, used in the trailer, has caught on in a big way.

One of the biggest hurdles was the casting. A popular TV actor opted out after the narration saying he didn't have a "good feeling about the film". Several starlets turned down the film before Kapil Dubey, Rahul Bagga and Tara-Alisha Berry agreed to live out Mastram's journey.

"We had a modest budget so didn't approach the big stars. We wrapped up the film in a monthlong schedule in Manali," he says.

After the trailer launch, Akhilesh has been flooded with offers from producers, wondering if he has another Mastram they can make. But his next script is a realistic crime drama in the GOW zone but with an urban backdrop. What about a GOW3? "No, that story is over," he says with finality.

Alia or Anushka?

Buzz is, it's a toss-up between Alia Bhatt and Anushka Sharma to star opposite Sidharth Malhotra in Tarun Mansukhani's remake of French director Pierre Salvadori's 2006 film Priceless (Hors de prix), produced by Karan Johar.

A source close to Tarun told Mirror, "Karan is really impressed with Alia's acting potential ever since he launched her in Student Of The Year. On the other hand, he is also keen to work with Anushka. Both fit the bill perfectly."

Added the source, "Alia and Anushka are aware that Karan has them in mind. Both the girls are enthusiastic about the role and have their fingers crossed."

After his efforts to put Dostana 2 back on track failed, Tarun has been busy with the remake in question.

A song for every season

Fourteen Songs, Two Weddings and a Funeral, that was the name of a British musical inspired by the Salman Khan-Madhuri Dixit starrer Hum Aapke Hain Koun..! The title of the stage adaptation aptly summed up Sooraj Barjatya's second film as a director. Two decades after its release, on August 5, 1994, Didi tera devar deewana and Maye ni maye still play at big fat Indian weddings.

Lata Mangeshkar sang 12 of these14 songs and the 60-plus songstress posed stiff competition to singers half her age. She had earlier dropped out of contention for the Filmfare Awards after bagging four, to encourage young talent. But that didn't stop the magazine readers from voting Didi tera devar deewana the year's best song and Lata didi the best female playback. As a mark of respect to this overwhelming appreciation, she agreed to accept a special award.

It had taken Sooraj a year and nine months to finish the screenplay. As he candidly admitted, "The first five months I was trying to write another Maine Pyaar Kiya and then I realised that there was no point in repeating myself and started all over again."

His father, Rajkumar Barjatya, suggested he rework one of Rajshri's earlier films, Nadiya Ke Paar. Sooraj would occasionally grumble that there was little drama in the story as there were no real villains apart from the circumstances and so no scope for maar dhad action. The songs were used to build relationships, take the story forward and help Sooraj handle stock situations.

As he pointed out, when Renuka Shahane delivers a baby and her family comes visiting, instead of falling back on the usual cliches, Sooraj treated the situation musically with the song Dhik Tana Dhik Tana. His grandfather, movie mogul Tarachand Barjatya, so loved the song that he suggested they title the film Dhik Tana Dhik Tana. But eventually, thry went with a more simple and direct Hum Aapke Hain Koun..!

The film flagged off on July 2, 1992,, with a song by Ramlaxman. Sooraj had around 50 sittings with his composer while scripting. It took him three months to record the 14 songs and in the course of four-hour-narrations for every member of the cast he'd play the songs and if they weren't recorded, sing them himself.

For Madhuri, matching steps to them was easy, but Renuka who was no dancer was thrilled that during Didi tera devar deewana she was 'pregnant' so though it was tiresome to lug a 'tummy' around, she didn't have to worry about getting the jhatkas right.

Four years after it was conceived, the film was ready. At a private screening, Sooraj was told it was too long and had too many songs. But only 10 days after the release did he agree to edit two songs -- Chocolate Limejuice Icecream and Mujhse judaa hokar -- and a couple of stanzas from another one. Then, encouraged by the response in Dehradun, Gandhinagar and Nizamabad where the film opened in its entirety, he restored the songs and the scenes in the new prints.

The film, derided by some as a 'wedding video', was one of Bollywood's biggest grossers. Two decades, later Didi tera devar deewana is still bang on target.

‘My words have found their soul in Rahman’s music’

From afar, Kapil Sibal seems an unlikely lyricist, or at best, an accidental one. But behind the steely exterior is a poet in hiding and the Minister of Communications and Information Technology, is foraying into the art with Raunaq - a music album with seven songs composed by AR Rahman and written by Sibal.

The songs, by Sibal's own admission, are a reflection of the current social scenario in our country. He has also drawn from personal experiences. "When one writes, his surroundings often end up becoming important participants in the activity. I've found that expression through my poetry and the result is beautiful," the Minister reveals.

Each song revolves around a unique theme. From an individual's journey through life and the story of a woman's struggles and eventual success, to love and romance, the album charts several moods.

Collaborating with Rahman was an obvious choice for Sibal considering the musician's extraordinary body of work and his love for unconventional melodies. "Rahman is a genius. I felt my words had found their soul in his tunes," Sibal gushes.

He adds that Rahman's appeal also lies in the fact that his music has a refreshing, non-Bollywood feel to it. "His tone and texture is free of any extravaganza. He creates music, not items. When I wrote these songs, I wanted them in the hands of someone who had consistency of thought and I think Rahman's music has that."

With Indian politics at a crucial juncture and his own responsibilities as minister, where does he find the time to write?

"If you really like something, you'll always find the time to pursue it. I'm a romantic at heart. To explore that side, I've been writing these songs for the past year-and-a-half," Sibal asserts.

What a flying coincidence!

Is Sunny Leone trying to pull a J.Lo in her latest song? A billowing black gown, plenty of leg and a background of writhing bodies; there's surely a flash from Jennifer Lopez's Dance Again in Sunny's Baby Doll track from Ragini MMS 2.

The song, which recently crossed 2 million views on YouTube shows the adult movie star tumbling onto a pile of seminaked bodies. Even the pattern of lights on the wall is similar to Dance Again. Another uncanny resemblance: Sunny wears black.

When we texted the film's producer Ekta Kapoor asking if J.Lo "inspired" the sequence in the song, she promptly replied with an emphatic, "Noooo." However, Manmeet of Meet Bros. who has sung the track said, "Yes, a lot of people called in to point out the similarity. Sometimes the visual artist working on the song likes a certain sequence so much that it creeps into their work. I feel that's what happened with Baby Doll too."

This is not the first time that the horrorflick has faced the copycat accusation. The film's first teaser was promptly taken off YouTube following a plagiarism charge from the British band The Black Angels who alleged that the background track used in the film's teaser was lifted from their song Young Men Dead. Later, a different teaser was released.

Chalo Lara’s back!

Three years after her first home production, Chalo Dilli, released, on April 29, 2011, Lara Dutta is getting ready to roll with its sequel.

"Chalo China will be shot in multiple locations across Asia, including Thailand, Malaysia and China. This film is not set in India," informs the actress.

Lara's character, the very 'propah' investment banker from Mumbai, Mihika Banerjee, who en route to meet her husband Akshay Kumar is forced to take to the road with an unlikely travelling companion, will return in all her manicured glory in the sequel. "We'll maintain Mihika's look and presentation," says the actress.

Vinay Pathak too will return as Manu Gupta, the loud sari seller who is a quintessential Dilliwallah. "I had put on 15 kgs for the earlier film, this time I'm almost there. Manu is not Milkha Singh so he can be of any shape or size. Even if he weren't obese and moustached, you'd still know it was him,"says Vinay, adding that after the cult hit Bheja Fry, he was deliberately looking to play a character that was not a stock comic and found him in Manu who enjoys street food and budget travel.

While the lead actors haven't changed, the original director Shashant Shah has been replaced by Shashanka Ghosh.

"All three of us worked together in a music channel. After Chalo Dilli, Shashant wasn't keen on doing a sequel and Shashanka had an idea for one. We started work on Chalo China a little over a year ago. Mahesh (tennis ace and Lara's husband Mahesh Bhupathi), Lara and I overlooked a couple of scripts before arriving at this one. We've been working on it for a while and we're just polishing it. It offers a different and fresh take on the earlier tale."

Like the first film, Chalo China is being produced by Mahesh's banner Big Daddy Productions, Lara's Bheegi Basanti Entertainment and Eros. Chalo Dilli was wrapped up in a start-to-finish 33-day schedule with only a three-day break. Its sequel too will be on the fast track once it rolls in March-April.

Will we see Mahesh making a special appearance? "No, Mahesh is not in the film," says Lara, shrugging off talks of a franchise,"We haven't thought of further sequels yet. I'm working with outside banners, but I will be able to share any information on them according to the timelines of the projects."

Wheeling Dealing

Shah Rukh Khan seems to be in a generous mood these days. A few days ago, the Mirror diarist reported that the star had gifted an expensive sedan to his wife Gauri on Valentine's Day and on Thursday, SRK surprised his Happy New Year costar Abhishek Bachchan with a gift.

This present too was a wheeled one. Abhishek was pleasantly surprised when a bike, a coveted model which costs approximately Rs 12.5 lakh, was delivered to his Juhu bungalow.

The two had worked together in Karan Johar's Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna in 2006. But their rapport had hit a rough patch and SRK and Gauri were not invited to the Abhi-Ash wedding in 2007. SRK's relationship with Aishwarya had soured after he dropped her from his home production Chalte Chalte. However, K Jo bought Ash and SRK together at his birthday party in 2011 and both decided to put aside their differences and make a fresh start.

Later, the ice between Abhishek and SRK was broken at photographer Daboo Ratnani's party to launch his 2012 calendar. However the two actors have really bonded during the making of Happy New Year.

A friend of Shah Rukh told Mirror, "Shah Rukh is in a very happy place these days. After the success of Chennai Express, he hasn't stopped smiling. His on-going film too is making brisk progress."

Meanwhile, Bachchan Jr is getting ready to zip-zap-zoom in the Juhu lanes during the weekends.

IIM grad’s tragedy now on screen

Manjunath Shanmugam's story as been adapted on screen by ad filmmakerturned-director Sandeep Verma.

The film, bankrolled by Viacom and NFDC, also features actress Divya Dutta. Delhi-based rock band Parikrama will compose the music. It has been extensively shot in UP, with some portions filmed at the Lucknow IIM campus.

Asked what triggered him to make the film nine years after Manjunath's death, the director says, "We look to create heroes in our movies and here was a 'real life hero' - an ordinary young man yet extraordinary because he refused to cow down to the corrupt."

The Phoenix rises in B’town

The Expendables star, John DeLong, will make his Bollywood debut in Rajiv Ruia's film, Flames. Rajiv had earlier directed My Friend Ganesha and Main Krishna Hoon.

DeLong, who has also acted in films like Deadliest Prey and The Phoenix Rises, will be seen as a reporter with a channel who comes to India to research a project. "He studies a few tribal villages in Chattisgarh where women are still exploited under the guise of black magic. I had read about these disturbing age-old practices and wanted to make a film on it," says the director.

Ruia got to know DeLong through a common friend and mailed him the script. ":He didn't take long to say 'yes'," he says elatedly. "We have recreated parts of Chattisgarh in a Gujarat village and have hired many of the locals to be a part of the film in some way. They are all very excited about making their Bollywood debut with a Hollywood actor."

The film also stars Hrishitaa Bhatt whom DeLong meets in India and falls in love with her.

MATCH POINT: TWO OF A KIND

Some hug, some even kiss but we prefer those who show their love through outfits!

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have already cemented their place as one of Hollywood's all-time cutest couples. However, they reaffirmed their status - and love for one another - with adorable matching tuxedos at the recently-held BAFTAs.

The stunning couple posed together in identical black tuxedos - and it's giving us flashbacks of their lead roles in Mr and Mrs Smith.

However, the two aren't the only celebrity couple to match their clothes before leaving the house to show the world they're completely in love.

Posh and Becks have certainly pulled out some rather special outfits from their wardrobes in the past in a bid to show a united front and who can forget the time Cheryl Cole and her footballer ex Ashley dressed all in white to show off their status as a power couple.

Perhaps those famous folk think we won't recognise them if they blind us with their double outfits but it's certainly not the case.

JLaw to quit acting for a year

Oscar-winning actress Jennifer Lawrence is set to quit acting for a year - after making eight movies in the last 12 months. The exhausted 23-year-old actress will enjoy a much earned rest from the big screen according to Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein.

Weinstein - who worked with her on Silver Linings Playbook - revealed: "She's going to have a long break for a year where she won't do anything. It's been non-stop for her and she deserves a rest."

The famed producer also defended her decision to not attend the BAFTAs ceremony, despite receiving an award for her role in American Hustle. He explained to The Sun on Sunday: "Jennifer is too nice and will do people favours and agrees to do a movie like American Hustle when she could have had a rest.

"She signed on to do Hunger Games when she was young and wouldn't have realised how much it would dominate her life. But she's a professional and always will be."

Mid-air drama for Priyan’s cricket team

Aircraft headed for Hyderabad returns to Kochi to deplane errant players.

Filmmaker Priyadarshan and his wife Lissy were gearing up to make an all-iswell appearance today in Hyderabad at their team Kochi Warriors' semi-final match in the CCL (Celebrity Cricket League). But the couple was in for a rude shock when they got a call yesterday afternoon saying that their players had misbehaved on the flight to Hyderabad and been off-loaded.

The pilot took a U-turn mid-air and returned to the Kochi airport following complaints by irate passengers and cabin crew. Enquiries revealed that their team had misbehaved not only on board but also in the airport lounge.

Priyadarshan and Lissy quickly got their act together and arranged the tickets for the players to take the next flight and reach Hyderabad in time for the match.

A source told Mirror, "The Kerala Strikers were in a celebratory mood and started creating a ruckus within minutes of entering the airport. The authorities warned them before they checked-in. Yet, they continued to create trouble even after entering the aircraft."

After a stern warning by the cabin crew, they went quiet. But 15 minutes after they took off, the Strikers were back to their rowdy ways much to the horror of their co-passengers.

Said the source, "The cabin crew and the pilot discussed the matter and the latter decided to divert the plane back to Kochi and offload the team. After a brief stopover in Kochi, the plane took off for Hyderabad again, but without the Kerala Strikers."

Admitting to the fracas, Lissy who is the co-owner of the team told Mirror, "I don't know what exactly transpired. I believe one of the airhostesses had a problem. But yes, the flight returned to Kochi and my boys were asked to disembark and take the evening flight. I will definitely have a word with them when I meet them in the stadium today."
