TRIBUTES

*MUKESH BHATT

I feel abandoned. He was my inspiration, my role model. He was my guru. I spoke to him every single day of my life. He used to call me up from every part of the world, whenever he was shooting. He was so full of life, there was so much to learn from him. He never came across as an 80 year old.

*BONEY KAPOOR
I will miss him terribly. To me, he was first a friend. Like me, he loved food. I remember guiding him at parties 'Yashji eat this, this is very tasty' and he doing the same if he had eaten before me. I often over-eat at parties and then Sridevi would nudge me, I would only tell her 'If Yashji can eat well and remain so fit till his age'. As for Sridevi, she is in a state of shock. I think we have lost the most versatile filmmaker.

*MADHUR BHANDARKAR
I had the privilege of meeting Yashji on a couple of occasions. He was a great personality and a very humble person. He inspired generations of filmmakers

*PAHLAJ NIHALANI

Yashji was always for the industry. A big, irrepairable loss to the industry, actually the country. I worked him on many issues, it was always a wonderful experience. When I was the president of AMTPP, he was the guiding force of the association. Romance in Hindi films will never be the same again.

*RAMESH TAURANIVery sad news. I can't believe that the Father of Indian Cinema is no more with us. I last met him at Amitji's birthday bash. He was so full of life. Bollywood will never be the same again.

*MAHESH BHATT
Film industry is a tribe which has its own ways of living. Accept it or not, he was the head of our tribe. We have lost our leader. He contributed to our cinema in every decade, and most importantly, reinvented himself with the passing of time. He lived the phrase 'dying with his boots on'. Nothing can be more ironical than the fact that he titled his last film 'Jab Thak Hai Jaan'.

*OMAR ABDULLAH, J&K CM

It's unfortunate news as Chopraji always wanted to make Kashmir a second home for Bollywood. He was the best envoy of our state's natural beauty in the rest of the country and he always advocated Kashmir as a destination to many film makers.
