People said my career was over

Bhandarkar reacts after the SC dismissed rape charges filed by Preeti Jain against him

Was Preeti Jain lying?
The Supreme Court decision that the case has been quashed took a long time to sink in. In fact, it still hasn't sunk in completely. I started crying. Think of it - I had challenged the magistrate's decision. As I gathered composure, my wife Renu was the first person who changed my mind. I called her up and gave her the news. She was overjoyed. She has stood by me like a rock. She trusted me before marriage and she trusts me even now.

We hear you installed CCTV cameras in your office sometime ago. Have you become wary of talking to newcomers?
There are CCTV cameras in every office these days. As for the second part of your question, I am not apprehensive about newcomers. I have always worked with them and will continue to do so.

It must have been a harrowing experience...
The last eight-and-a-half years have been traumatic. But thankfully, my carrer wasn't affected. I will never forget the time when I was making  Page 3 when Preeti's allegations were fresh in people's minds. They said my career was over. Equally important if not more is that till date, the rescept and goodwill I enjoy in the industry has remained unchanged. I guess I am destiny's child.

What if Preeti bumps into you at some point in the future?
I don't want to answer that question.

What next after Heroine?
Right now, I am so happy and relieved that I can't put my thoughts together. It's just Egypt for now, where I am representing India at the Cairo Film Festival. I will be away for 12 days. Renu might be joining me.
