Hollywood couple Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones' 13-year marriage is over, it was claimed this week. An insider said: "Michael is going to announce the split soon. Catherine is fighting to save the marriage but he's had it."
But another report said she was set to start a multi-million divorce battle. Earlier this week Michael, 68, was pictured arriving in Sardinia by private jet but mum-of-two- Catherine, 43, was nowhere to be seen.They pictured together in public for four months . Reports of a marriage crisis were denied earlier this year but Michael's spokesman would only say yesterday: "I won't talk about that." Welsh Catherine supported her husband as he battled throat cancer in 2011. He helped her when she had a stint in rehab for bipolar disorder.
Zeta-Jones met the Basic Instinct actor, who is 25 years senior to her, at the Deauville Film Festival in France in August 1998 and began dating a few months after that. The couple got married on November 18,2000 at New York's Plaza Hotel, after becoming engaged on New Year's Eve 1999. The pair has two children together-13-year-old son Dylan Michael Douglas and 10-year-old daughter Carys Zeta Douglas.
Michael and Catherine's marriage serves as one of the longest-standing marriages in Hollywood, with 13 years together, alongside Will Smith and Jada Pinkett-Smith and Sharon and Ozzy Osbourne.
Hollywood relationships seem like ticking time bombs with everyone splitting at one time or another. Other divorces announced this year include Nigella Lawson and Charles Saatchi, and Billy Ray Cyrus and Tish Cyrus.
